The name "Doodhpathri" means "Valley of Milk." It is said that the famous poet and saint of Kashmir, "Sheikh-Ul-Aalam" Sheikh- Noor-Ud-Din Noorani, has prayed here, and once, when he was in search of water in the meadows to offer prayers, he pricked the ground with his stick to search for water, and milk came out.

Places to Visit in Dhoodhpathri:

Nilnag: The lake is famous for its turquoise water. The route from Yousmarg is rather difficult and unmotorable and goes through a dense forest. The lake's crystal-clear blue water gave it its name: nag stands for lake (or a spring) and nil for the blue colour.
Tangnar Meadows: It is famous for its lush greenery, striking natural landscapes, and gushing streams. The place is called Doodhpathri because of the milky white water that runs through its rivers and streams.
The Shiva Temple: It houses a Shiva temple, associated with Adi Shankaracharya, who is known to have meditated there. The view it offers is perhaps one of the best views of Srinagar city.
Shaliganga River: Doodhpatri waterfall point is the main attraction in the Doodhpatri region. It's not a waterfall per say, but river Shaliganga flows through rocks and seems like milk, hence the name doodhpatri.
